New COVID-19 cases, hospital admissions, fall in Okaloosa

OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. — New hospitalizations for people with COVID-19 greatly decreased during the past week in Okaloosa County.

New cases are down in both Okaloosa and Walton counties.

In the seven-day period ending February 6, there were 69 new hospital admissions in Okaloosa County, down 33.65 percent from 104 admissions the previous week, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Okaloosa reported 1,631 new COVID-19 cases during the same period according to the CDC. In the previous week, 2,875 new cases were reported, a decrease of 47.27 percent.

The testing positivity rate is 36.67 percent, down from 44.76 percent last week.

The CDC reported 0 deaths in Okaloosa, a decrease of 100 percent over the previous week. Florida suppresses its COVID-19 death data.

In Walton County, 421 new cases were reported the past week, down from 759 new cases the previous week.

There were 57 new hospital admissions, up from 45 the previous week.

Walton’s positivity rate is 35.87 percent, down from 43.35 percent last week.

The CDC reports the number of deaths is less than 10, a 250 percent increase according to the CDC,

According to the CDC, the transmission level of COVID in Okaloosa and Walton counties is “high.” It recommends that everyone in Okaloosa and Walton wear a mask in public, indoor settings.
