DESTIN, Fla. — You can’t outsmart a K9: An attempt to hide cocaine in a magnetic pouch underneath a pickup truck didn’t work against the nose of an Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office K9.
According to a report by the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, an OCSO deputy made a traffic stop on Legion Drive near Beach Drive in Destin on February 5. A K9 team conducted a free air sniff around the truck and the dog alerted to the odor of narcotics.
A search of the interior didn’t turn up anything, but a check underneath the truck turned up a blue pouch attached to the frame holding crack cocaine, a glass smoking device with white residue, and multiple empty jeweler-style bags.
Nicholas Thomas, 37, of Crestview is charged with possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and violation of felony probation.
