June 26 COVID-19 cases update for Okaloosa, Niceville

NICEVILLE, FLA, JUNE 26, 2020 — The Florida Department of Health reports this morning the cumulative number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Okaloosa County is 541, 41 more since yesterday morning. The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Niceville and Valparaiso is 56.

NICEVILLE, Fla — The Florida Department of Health reports this morning the cumulative number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Okaloosa County is 541, 41 more since yesterday morning. The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Niceville and Valparaiso is 56.

Statewide, the number of cases is 122,960, an increase of 8,879 since yesterday morning. That is a 62 percent increase over the previous record of 5,508 reported Wednesday.

Florida has now added more cases since June 10 (56,960) than it did from the start of the pandemic in March through the end of May (56,163).

Gov. Ron DeSantis has refused to issue a statewide requirement for people to wear masks but now is encouraging people to follow health guidelines, which include social distancing, avoiding crowds, hand washing and wearing masks in public.

However, this morning, Halsey Beshears, secretary of the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation, announced all on-premises consumption of alcohol at bars in Florida is suspended, effective immediately.

Okaloosa data indicates that for the last five weeks each person carrying COVID-19 has passed the coronavirus on to 2.24 others, according to Health Department Director Dr. Karen Chapman

The number of deaths in Okaloosa County remains unchanged at six.
