Okaloosa County COVID-19 Daily Report
NICEVILLE, Fla — The Florida Department of Health reports this morning the cumulative number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Okaloosa County is 500, 43 more since yesterday morning. The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Niceville and Valparaiso is 50.
“This is a critical situation,” said Health Department Director Dr. Karen Chapman in an email warning Okaloosa County of the increases in case numbers and the positive testing rate.
Data also indicates that for the last five weeks each person carrying COVID-19 has passed the coronavirus on to 2.24 others, she reported.
“The total number of active cases in the county is growing at an unsustainable rate,” Chapman said. “If this trend continues the hospital system may become overwhelmed.”
Statewide, the number of cases is 114,081, an increase of 5,,004 since yesterday morning. Many restaurants, bars, and pubs in the state are defying Gov. Ron DeSantis’ executive orders on reopening and social distancing. To date, no fines have been levied and no enforcement action has been taken by the state to protect residents and visitors.
In Okaloosa, the number of hospitalizations related to coronavirus in Okaloosa is 59, three more since yesterday.
The number of deaths in Okaloosa County remains unchanged at six.
Here’s the latest breakdown by city in Okaloosa (note that the city is not always reported as part of the initial notification and may be missing while the case is being investigated):
