January 8 COVID-19 report for Okaloosa, Niceville

NICEVILLE, Fla — The Florida Department of Health Friday reported 196 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases in Okaloosa County. There are 29 new cases in Niceville and Valparaiso.

The cumulative number of cases in Okaloosa is 13,952.

The FDOH reports the total number of people killed by COVID-19 in Okaloosa is 244, four more deaths reported since yesterday.

Statewide, 19,530 new cases were reported by the FDOH. The current cumulative total is 1,449,252.

The cumulative number of hospitalizations in Okaloosa is 538, one more since the previous report. Currently, there are 65 COVID-19 patients in Okaloosa County hospitals.

COVID-19 vaccination appointments in Okaloosa filled for next week

According to the FDOH, there were 1,065 test results returned in Okaloosa with 192 positives. The daily positivity rate is 18.03 percent.

As a rule of thumb, the threshold for the percent positive being “too high” is five percent according to the Centers for Disease Control.

According to the FDOH, Okaloosa’s weekly positivity rate is 22.4 percent for the week ending January 2, up from 19.4 percent the previous week.

Florida’s current weekly positivity rate is 13.9 percent (7-day moving average) according to Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center data.
