The organizer of “Geek Lights on the Corner” a popular Niceville Christmas lights display and music show, is calling on the community to help set up the display for its December 2, 2017, opening night.
“I’m begging you to PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE sign-up and come out!” writes organizer and chief geek Jeff Werner on his Geek Lights Facebook Page.
The Geek Lights consists of Christmas lights and other themed display elements, all under computer control and synchronized to stories and music.
Werner said that in past years, work would already be underway for the display but personal and family matters, including the deaths of his mother, and his wife’s father, have delayed work this year. Until just this week, the display was in jeopardy of being canceled for 2017, the 10th anniversary of the Christmas lights show.
That changed on Thursday.
“Okay, Superfans — we’ve made our decision, and we WILL be putting on a show this year!!! Werner posted. “Now, while I appreciate the outpouring of love and support that you showed in my last post, let me quite frankly say that expressions of love and support will NOT get this show built! We need VOLUNTEERS to come out and become Geek Lights insiders!”
Community build days for the display are Nov. 11, 18 and 25. Details will be posted on the Geek Lights Facebook Page.
No special technical skills are required and there is no climbing or heavy lifting involved.
The elaborate Christmas lights display attracts thousands of onlookers each year. A donation box is located at the display site and funds raised each year are donated to a worthy cause.
Geek Lights on the Corner is located at 201 Antiqua Way in Bluewater Bay (at the corner of Bluewater Blvd and Antiqua Way).
