OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. – A former Naval rescue swimmer has been charged with attempted murder after an Okaloosa Island condominium security guard said the man tried to drown him in the property’s swimming pool.
Seth Beavers, 33, of Sterling, Illinois, is held on no bond in the Okaloosa County Jail in Crestview.
According to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO), deputies were called to a condominium property at 1110 Santa Rosa Boulevard on Okaloosa Island around 10:15 p.m. on Friday.
A security guard reportedly said Beavers was at the pool after hours. He said when he asked Beavers to leave, Beavers allegedly started a physical altercation, reportedly telling the security guard he would drown him.
The victim said Beavers rolled him into the pool while holding him against his will, hit him in the head, then pushed him under the water, depriving him of oxygen.
The victim, who said he cannot swim, said he was able to get away briefly. He told OCSO deputies although he tried to get out of the pool, Beavers struck him again, wrapped his arm around his neck, and pulled him back into the water again, fully submerging his head as if trying to purposefully drown him, the OCSO said.
The victim reportedly said he feared he was going to die during the encounter.
