The Exchange Club of Niceville will host its 4th annual Field of Valor flag display in Niceville honoring service members from the State of Florida who made the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq and Afghanistan since 9/11/01.
The event location is the Mullet Festival Grounds in Niceville and will begin on Saturday, Sept. 9 with an opening ceremony at 10:00 a.m. The Field of Valor will remain open from 12 noon – 8:00 p.m. on Sept 9 and remain open these hours through Friday, Sept 15. Saturday, Sept.16 the hours will be from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
There is no charge to the public who come to visit our Florida heroes and pay their respects.
The Field of Valor will display 360 3-foot by 5-foot flags in perfect columns and rows at the north end of the Mullet Festival Grounds. On each flag, a tag is attached with information on the service member—name, rank, hometown, branch of service, and date of death. The flags are arranged alphabetically and there will be an information table with volunteers available to answer questions and direct visitors around the field.
Opening ceremony speakers will be Air Force Col. Jimmy Mott, Commander of the 1st Special Operations Group, Army Col. Patrick T. Colloton, Group Commander, 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne) and Lt Gen Air Force (Ret) Richard Y. Newton III. This ceremony officially opens the field to visitors.
Visitors attending the opening ceremony on Saturday, September 9 will also have the opportunity to view an exact replica of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. This tomb replica is a very detailed, half sized replica of the original and is brought to the event by the Exchange Club of Rome, GA. It will be on display Saturday morning ONLY.
The Exchange Club has sponsorship opportunities available to sponsor an individual flag ($25), as well as Premier Sponsorships ranging from $250 to $2500 and include sponsored flags, print media mention as well as other benefits. Proceeds from this event will benefit The Fisher House of the Emerald Coast and the Exchange Club of Niceville’s local community and Americanism projects.
For additional information, or to sponsor a flag, make a donation, or volunteer, visit the Exchange Club Website or contact Paul McShane at 850-678-8680 or rockne@cox.net.
