Northwest Florida State College Foundation recently received a gift from Fort Walton Beach Medical Center to the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Scholarship in honor of Dr. Mauri Lunderman. Dr. Lunderman received the First HCA 2013 Humanitarian Award on March 19, 2014. This award honors a physician who displays a concern for the well-being of others beyond his/her day-today physician responsibilities, demonstrates a level of commitment to community service beyond the daily operation of the facility that parallels their involvement to quality patient care, demonstrates remarkable concern for the welfare and happiness of patients and has performed extraordinary acts of kindness, whose contributions may be overshadowed due to personal modesty and genuine humility, who makes this world a better place and inspires others to get involved by caring for the community and others in need.
Mitch Mongell, CEO of FWBMC wrote about Dr. Lunderman, “As a member of the FWBMC Medical Staff since 1995, he has demonstrated his commitment to continuously improving care through his service on various committees, including the Board of Trustees. He currently serves as Chairman of the Utilization Review and Medical Records Committee. And while those formal positions play a huge role in quality of care and service provided at the hospital, it is his informal guidance and enthusiasm for teaching and mentoring others that elevate him to the level of a true humanitarian.”
