December 23 COVID-19 report for Okaloosa, Niceville

NICEVILLE, Fla — The Florida Department of Health Wednesday reported 209 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases in Okaloosa County. In Niceville and Valparaiso, there are 42 new cases.

The cumulative number of cases in Okaloosa is 11,961.

The FDOH reports the total number of people killed by COVID-19 in Okaloosa is 215, no change.

Statewide, 11,384 new cases were reported by the FDOH. The current cumulative total is 1,234,399 cases.

The cumulative number of hospitalizations in Okaloosa is 491, three more since the previous day. Currently, there are 44 COVID-19 patients in Okaloosa County hospitals.

According to the FDOH, Wednesday there were 944 test results returned in Okaloosa with 214 positives. The daily positivity rate is 22.67 percent.

As a rule of thumb, the threshold for the percent positive being “too high” is five percent according to the Centers for Disease Control.

According to the FDOH, Okaloosa’s weekly positivity rate is 17.27 percent for the week ending Dec. 19, down from 18.31 percent the previous week.

Florida’s current weekly positivity rate is 9.2 percent (7-day moving average) according to Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center data.
