COVID-19 deaths up in Okaloosa, down in Walton

OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. — The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports 14 new COVID-19 deaths in Okaloosa County during the past week, twice the number from the previous week.

New cases and hospital admissions have dropped.

According to the CDC, COVID-19 is responsible for 14 deaths in Okaloosa over the past seven days, up 100 percent over the previous week.

Okaloosa reported 176 new COVID-19 cases over the past week according to the CDC. In the previous week, 443 new cases were reported, a decrease of 60.27 percent.

New hospitalizations in Okaloosa County for people with COVID-19 decreased during the past weekaccording to the CDC. Over the past week, Okaloosa had 26 new hospital admissions. There were 38 new hospital admissions the previous week.

The testing positivity rate in Okaloosa is 8.22 percent, down greatly from 17.45 percent last week.

According to the CDC, the transmission level of COVID in Okaloosa County is “substantial.” It recommends that everyone in Okaloosa wear a mask in public, indoor settings.

In Walton County, 46 new cases were reported over the past seven days, down over 54 percent from 101 new cases reported by the CDC the previous week.

There were 12 new hospital admissions, down from 19 admissions the previous week.

The CDC reports the number of deaths is less than 10, a 20 percent decrease according to the CDC.

Walton’s positivity rate is 9.23 percent, down from 14.79 percent the previous seven days.
