PENSACOLA, Fla. – Work begins this week on a $4.2 million construction project to resurface Barrancas Avenue (State Road 292) from the Bayou Chico Bridge to Pace Boulevard, and Pace Boulevard (State Road 292) from Barrancas Avenue to Massachusetts Avenue in Escambia County, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has announced.
The project will also include sidewalk and curb improvements to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), new signage and pavement markings, drainage enhancements, and traffic signalization upgrades, the FDOT said.
During construction, motorists and bicyclists can expect lane closures and traffic shifts.
Lane closures will be limited to the 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. timeframe. Pedestrian detours will be in place while sidewalk improvements are underway. The project is estimated for completion in late 2022.
All activities are weather-dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather.
Drivers are reminded to use caution, especially at night, when traveling through a work zone and to watch for construction workers and equipment entering and exiting the roadway.
