ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. – Construction activities are scheduled to begin on a section of East Nine Mile Road (U.S. 90 ALT) in Escambia County the week of Monday, May 2, according to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).
The $7.2 million project will improve safety on a 2.3-mile portion of East Nine Mile Road from Chemstrand Road to east of Baldridge Drive, the FDOT said.
Improvements will include widening the turn lanes to include five-foot bicycle lanes in each direction, traffic signal upgrades, guardrail, pavement markings, and sidewalk enhancements, drainage improvements, and milling and resurfacing all turn lanes and bicycle lanes.
Motorists and bicyclists can expect lane closures and traffic shifts.
Lane closures will be permitted from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. seven days a week.
Pedestrian detours will be in place while sidewalk improvements are underway.
The project is estimated for completion in summer 2023.
All activities are weather-dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. Drivers are reminded to use caution, especially at night, when traveling through a work zone and to watch for construction workers and equipment entering and exiting the roadway.
