Cold Case Focus: The hit-and-run death of Shelly Meadors in Destin on August 10, 2002. (Emerald Coast Crime Stoppers)
DESTIN, Fla. – The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) continues to seek information in the 2002 hit-and-run death of Shelly Meadors that took place in Destin where she was vacationing.
Meadors, who was 15 years old at the time, was standing with two friends on the south side of Highway 98 in Destin on August 10, 2002, when a vehicle heading east ran up over the curb onto the sidewalk and hit her and a friend.
According to the OCSO, the vehicle continued eastbound without the driver stopping, calling for help, or rendering aid.
Meadors, of Louisville, Kentucky, died from her injuries and OCSO investigators have been working the case for two decades trying to pinpoint the person responsible for the fatal hit and run.
Meadors would be 35 years old if the tragic event had not claimed her life.
