CDC: COVID deaths spike in Okaloosa

OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. — The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that COVID-19 is responsible for 40 deaths reported during the past week in Okaloosa County. The CDC reported 0 deaths the previous week in Okaloosa.

New hospitalizations for people with COVID-19 decreased during the past week in Okaloosa and Walton counties, according to the CDC.

New cases are down in both counties.

In the seven-day period ending February 13, there were 66 new hospital admissions in Okaloosa County, slightly down from 69 admissions the previous week, according to the CDC.

Okaloosa reported 1,117 new COVID-19 cases during the same period according to the CDC. In the previous week, 1,631 new cases were reported, a decrease of 31.51 percent.

According to the CDC, the transmission level of COVID in Okaloosa and Walton counties is “high.” It recommends that everyone in Okaloosa and Walton wear a mask in public, indoor settings.
