FLORIDA –– Officers with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) said they have issued a criminal citation to the captain of a commercial fishing vessel for undersized red grouper.
According to an announcement by the FWC, its officers conducted a dockside fisheries inspection on an inbound commercial vessel in Lee County and noticed several undersized red grouper on board.
Upon further inspection, the FWC said 16 undersized red grouper were found on board and seized.
The commercial size limit for red grouper caught in the Gulf is 18 inches in total length, and 20 inches in total length for red grouper caught in the Atlantic, according to the FWC.
Special regulations apply for red grouper when fishing in Biscayne National Park, the FWC said.
