Bicycle rider critically injured: FHP seeking information in Lake County hit and run

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) is asking for assistance from the public in identifying a car they believe was involved in a hit-and-run collision in Lake County that gravely wounded a bicycle rider.

The FHP reports that the hit-and-run collision happened in Lake County on July 26, 2023, at 5:45 a.m. near Wolf Branch Road and Stone Meadow Court. A 59-year-old biker was seriously hurt as a consequence of it.

“FHP needs your help locating the vehicle and suspect driver involved in this crash,” said the FHP in an announcement.

At the time of the crash, the bicyclist was reportedly traveling eastbound on Wolf Branch Road along the edge of the roadway approaching Stone Meadow Court. The FHP said the man was riding a bike with proper lights, including a flashing indication, wearing a reflective vest.

The FHP said the vehicle in question was approaching Stone Meadow Court while moving east on Wolf Branch Road. The FHP claims that the motorist struck the bicycle because he or she did not slow down for the rider.

The suspect vehicle then allegedly left the area, traveling east on Wolf Branch Road. The biker was sent in serious condition to Lake Monroe Hospital.

According to the FHP, it has no witnesses, suspect vehicle, or driver; the only thing that investigators have found is a piece from a front headlight assembly, potentially from a white car that resembles a Kia Soul between 2014 and 2018.

The suspect vehicle should have damage on the front right side, the FHP said.
