Bay, Jackson traffic advisory for June 26-30

BAY COUNTY, Fla. — Motorists will encounter traffic disruptions on the following state roads in Bay and Jackson counties as crews perform construction and maintenance activities, according to the Florida Department of Transportation.

In preparation for the Independence Day holiday weekend, there will be no lane closures or other activities that impede traffic on major state roads beginning at 8 a.m. Friday, July 1, and ending 11:59 p.m. Monday, July 4, the FDOT said.

Bay County:

— State Road (S.R.) 390 Widening from Jenks Avenue to S.R. 77
Kentucky Avenue remains closed at the S.R. 390 intersection. Drivers may use either West 18th Street or Carolina Avenue for access to S.R. 390. S.R. 77 pedestrian traffic is shifted to the east side of the roadway near the S.R. 390 intersection. The sidewalk on the west side of S.R. 77 is temporarily closed from the S.R. 390 intersection to 17th Street. Pedestrians may cross to the sidewalk on the east side of S.R. 77 at either the S.R. 390 or 17th Street intersections, the FDOT said.

— U.S. 98/Tyndall Air Force Base Flyover
According to the FDOT, U.S. 98 westbound traffic is shifted slightly to the north so work may continue to elevate the travel lanes above the two intersections. No oversized permit loads are allowed while this lane shift is in place.

— U.S. 98 (Panama City Beach Parkway) Resurfacing from the Walton County Line to Heather Drive
Motorists will encounter intermittent shoulder closures from Monday, June 27 through Friday, July 1 for concrete operations, the FDOT said.

— Beach Drive (U.S. 98B) Resurfacing from 15th Street to West of Harrison Avenue (U.S. 231)
The FDOT said drivers will encounter the following intermittent lane closures:

  • Beck Avenue from S. 98 to 10th Street from 10 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. Sunday, June 26 to Friday, July 1 for paving work. Traffic control officers will assist in directing motorists through the work area.
  • 6th Street near the Beach Drive intersection from 10 m. to 7 a.m. Sunday, June 26 to Friday, July 1 for drainage work.
  • 9th Street, Frankford Avenue, and Beach Drive from Frankford Avenue to 6th Street from 7 m. to 10 p.m. Monday, June 27 through Thursday, June 30 for drainage and curb and gutter work.

Jackson County:

— U.S. 231 Resurfacing from I-10 to U.S. 90 – Motorists will encounter intermittent lane closures Monday, June 27 through Friday, July 1 for striping operations, according to the FDOT.

All activities are weather-dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. Drivers are reminded to use caution, especially at night, when traveling through a work zone and to watch for construction workers and equipment entering and exiting the roadway.
