Allegiant Air, a low-fare airline, will soon begin offering direct flights between Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport and two destinations in the Midwest. The announcement was made Jan. 12 during a ceremony at the airport which included local officials and representatives of the airline.
Local service begins May 20 with direct flights to and from the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. On June 2, Allegiant Air will begin direct flights to and from the MidAmerica St. Louis Airport. The flights will be offered twice weekly and, for now, are seasonal. The flights will end the first week in September.
If there is enough demand, it is likely additional flights will be added in the future.
A typical one-way flight on Allegiant Air averages about $74.
Allegiant Air was founded in 1997. Based in Las Vegas, Nev., Allegiant’s fleet of airliners includes MD-80s, Boeing 757-200s, Airbus A319s and Airbus A320s.
