The festival was once a popular event with free admission that featured local acts, vendors and a family atmosphere.  Some years back the committee took the festival in a different direction, changing it to a country music festival and fair fueled by beer sales. An admission fee was charged; first $1, then it was gradually raised to $15 for the day per person.

Locals have complained in recent years that it was losing its charm and appeal.

To many, the festival became just like any other with commonplace festival food and attractions. Attendance dropped drastically according to figures released by the Festival Committee.
