North Light Yacht Club plays host to CHILDREN OF DEPLOYED MILITARY PERSONNEL

North Light Yacht Club hosted families of deployed military personnel during a special event held Saturday, April 17th at North Light in Niceville. The event, titled “Fun D.M.C.” (Fun Deployed Military’s Children) featured a day of chartered fishing for the children and poolside relaxation and massages for their mothers, made possible through donations of time and services from a number of local merchants and volunteers.

Twenty children aged 8-13 fished on local charter boats, arriving back at North Light for a weigh-in at noon. The catch included Spanish mackerel, Redfish, Speckled fish and a 22-pound Cobia. “Hosting this event was a chance to recognize and show appreciation to the family members of our military,” said Therese van Gogh, North Light Yacht Club marketing and sales manager who helped organize the event. “This day helped us show our appreciation for the loved ones of our deployed military who remain home.”

Ginger Kraft said the event was a chance to give her kids something they don’t normally get to do. “They were so excited. They’ve wanted to go fishing since we moved here last year and we just haven’t had the opportunity.” Kraft’s husband deployed last November.

Merchants and donors included Shikari Charters, Signature Shares, Niceville-Valparaiso Chamber of Commerce, Eglin Yacht Club, Walgreens of Niceville, Penn, Phillips Oil, Source Institute, Merle Norman of Niceville, Summit II in Hair/Niceville, Fitness 24/7/Niceville, Pretty Woman Boutique, Winn Dixie/Niceville and Vision Bank.
