Northwest Florida Youth Chorus Auditions January 14
Auditions for the Northwest Florida Youth Chorus will be held on Thursday, January 14 at 5:00 p.m. in the Tyler Recital Hall of the Mattie Kelly Fine and Performing Arts Center at Northwest Florida State College in Niceville. The Youth Chorus, under the direction of Bonita Clark, is specifically geared toward young vocalists in grades 4-8. Members will have the opportunity to perform a broad spectrum of repertoire reflecting diverse languages, periods, and styles each semester, ending with a concert on Saturday, May 8 at 6:30 p.m. Rehearsals take place on Monday evenings beginning January 25 from 5:00-6:30 p.m. in the Tyler Recital Hall. Northwest Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra Auditions January 17
Northwest Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra (NFYSO) of Northwest Florida State College will hold auditions for new members Sunday, January 17 from 1:00 to 2:30 pm in the Orchestra room of the Music Wing at the Mattie Kelly Arts Center at the NWFSC Niceville campus. Auditions are open for advanced String students and any high school age woodwinds, brass and percussionists. There is a special need for Oboe, Trumpet and French Horn players. Weekly rehearsals will then begin on Sunday, January 24th.The Northwest Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra is a full orchestra of over 50 talented young musicians ranging in age from 5th to 12th Grade. The group is under the direction of Liz Aylor who is also the director of the Symphonic Strings program of Okaloosa County and a former member of the NFSO and the Pensacola Symphony. Those selected for the youth orchestra will be required to pay membership fees of $75 to $125 per semester; and some scholarships will be available. To set up an audition time, please call 651-4308.
The NFSYO performs annual Fall and Spring concerts at The Mattie Kelly Arts Center and at other local events including performing with the Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra for fifth grade students of Okaloosa and Walton County schools. Junior Orchestra for String Musicians Begins Jan. 23
The Junior Orchestra of Northwest Florida State College, a youth string ensemble, has openings for Spring Semester for string students in grades 4 to 9 who play either violin, viola, cello or string bass and have at least 2 years of musical experience. This group is a stepping stone to the more advanced Northwest Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra and is the only program of its kind in the area. The group under the direction of Liz Aylor, meets on Saturday mornings, from 10:00am to 12:00pm in room 304 of the Music Wing at the Mattie Kelly Arts Center at the college’s Niceville campus. The program is offered through the college and there is a registration fee of $125 for the semester which is payable at the first rehearsal on Saturday, January 23rd.
