Two Okaloosa County middle school cheerleaders, Kristy Summerlin of Ruckel Middle School and Bailey Rathmann of Destin Middle School, participated in the opening and closing act of the 83rd Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. The two performed in red cheerleading outfits with the Macy's star emblem and were part of a team of cheerleaders, 760 strong, who formed a star around hosts Matt Lauer and Meredith Vier of NBC's Today Show. The girls were selected during a summer cheer camp sponsored by the Universal Cheerleading Association.

The Choctawhatchee HS Stylemarchers also marched as the second band in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, right behind Tom the Turkey and just in front of Kermit the Frog.
