Kevin Moran, general manager of Seagar’s Prime Steaks and Seafood, located at the Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort & Spa, was recently awarded the designation of Certified Wine Specialist by the Society of Wine Educators.

Prior to receiving the certification, Moran was tested by the society for his academic knowledge and mastery of key elements regarding wine. The society reports only 51 percent of those who take the exam receive a score that merits certification.

"There are only 3,600 individuals in the world who hold the Certified Wine Specialist distinction. One of Northwest Florida’s only certified sommeliers, Moran has more than 30 years in the hospitality industry. He has traveled extensively, including overseas, and uses his knowledge and experience to maintain the integrity and high standards of Seagar’s, which was the first restaurant in the region to receive AAA’s Four-Diamond rating. As well, the Destin-area restaurant, with a wine offering of more than 600 labels, has been honored with Wine Spectator’s Best of Award of Excellence annually since 2004.

The Society of Wine Educators, based in Washington, D.C., was founded in 1974. The nonprofit educational organization‘s mission is to advance wine education through professional development and certification.
