“Because It’s the Music that Matters” – January 28

Fundraiser for Michael A. Mancini, Sr. Gifted Musician Scholarship at NWFSC

“Because It’s the Music that Matters,” a scholarship fundraiser for gifted musicians, will be held on January 28 at 7:30 p.m. on the mainstage of the Mattie Kelly Arts Center at Northwest Florida State College in Niceville. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door and are available now from the Mattie Kelly Arts Center Box Office in person, by phone at (850) 729-6000, or online at www.mattiekellyartscenter.org (http://www.mattiekellyartscenter.org).

All proceeds from the event will go to the Michael A. Mancini, Sr. Gifted Musician Scholarship to benefit a music student of the Jazz Ensemble of Northwest Florida State College. The scholarship was founded by Mary Mancini in memory of her husband who passed away January 1, 2009. Michael Mancini was renowned for his big bands and for introducing young musicians to the joys of jazz music.

Entertainment at the event includes Cheryl Jones and Jones and Company, with special guest Paul Scurto on trumpet; The Classics, an 11 piece big band from Georgia, with Saundra Daggs, a local Big Band, Jazz and Stage Vocalist; and Darin Jordan, NWFSC Student and first recipient of the Michael A. Mancini, Sr. Gifted Musician Scholarship. Leo Tisa will serve as Master of Ceremonies. Buddy DeFranco, clarinetist and Jazz Hall of Fame Inductee, will reflect on Mr. Mancini’s legacy. A silent auction will also be held in the center’s lobby.
