Uptown Station releases Flag Ceremony Dates for 2010

Uptown Station is home to Florida’s tallest flagpole. At 170’, the flagpole was erected in 2007 and dedicated to all members of the Military and First Responders.

As community events, flag raising ceremonies are held on important dates during the year. At these ceremonies an Honor Guard provided by the Fort Walton Beach Police and Fire Departments, in full ceremonial dress, walk the 50’ x 80’ Stars and Stripes down the length of Central Park. The flag is hoisted to the top of the pole in a solemn and moving ceremony.

On some dates, the Flag is preceded by an Color Guard from the Choctawhatchee High School Junior ROTC, and also the National Anthem is sometimes sung live by a local celebrity performer.

The ceremonies take place at 12:00 noon.

Dates for 2010 are:

Monday, February 15th – Presidents Day.

Friday, May 28th – Memorial Day (Memorial Day is Monday, May 31st)

Friday, July 2nd – Independence Day (4th July falls on Sunday in 2010)

Friday, September 10th – Patriot Day (Patriot Day falls on Saturday in 2010)

Thursday, November 11th – Veteran’s Day.
